The Tyrone Anderson Memorial Scholarship

RefClinic is honored to establish the Tyrone Anderson Memorial Scholarship in memory of our colleague, mentor, and friend, Tyrone Anderson, who passed away unexpectedly on June 15, 2026.

Tyrone played an instrumental role in the founding of RefClinic, serving as a trusted advisor to the Board and providing the guidance, wisdom, and counsel necessary to help shape our vision as a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of college football officiating. He was a tireless advocate for both the game and the officiating profession, dedicating countless hours to mentoring officials, conducting rules clinics, and hosting educational conference calls designed to help others develop their skills and advance their careers. Without Tyrone’s leadership and support, RefClinic may never have become the organization it is today.

Throughout his distinguished officiating career, Tyrone served on the field in numerous conferences including the ACC. In 2023, he moved into replay officiating and concluded his career in the SEC as a Replay Communicator. During his tenure, he worked numerous high-profile assignments, including the SEC Championship Game and a 2025 College Football Playoff First Round game.

Beyond his on-field and replay accomplishments, Tyrone was deeply committed to the education and development of officials at every level. He served for many years as a board member of the Tom Beard Officiating Clinic and dedicated much of his offseason to teaching and mentoring at officiating clinics across the country. He also hosted online replay officiating sessions and generously invested his personal time coaching officials one-on-one. Tyrone was widely respected for his inclusive, encouraging, and practical teaching style. Whether working with a first-year official or a seasoned veteran, he approached every interaction with patience, positivity, and a genuine desire to help others succeed.

The impact Tyrone had on the officiating community cannot be overstated. His legacy lives on through the countless officials he mentored, the friendships he cultivated, and the standards of excellence he championed throughout his life.

To honor that legacy, the Tyrone Anderson Memorial Scholarship will offset the costs of attendance for a participant to attend the annual RefClinic On-Field & Replay Experience. The RefClinic Board will publish application guidelines in the near future and look forward to awarding this scholarship to a deserving individual who embodies the character, commitment, professionalism, and passion for officiating that Tyrone demonstrated throughout his life.

Through this scholarship, Tyrone’s influence will continue to inspire and develop future generations of college football officials for years to come!
